Audi Presents New Electric Vehicle
Audi is scheduled to unveil not one, but two all new electric cars at this years Shanghai Auto Show. The Audi e-tron has already begun deliveries in Europe and is scheduled to hit the states later this year. On April 16th, it is set to make its official debut for the Chinese market alongside another electric car, the Audi Q2L e-tron, and an autonomous concept, the Audi AI:ME.
We have been hearing about the Audi e-tron for some time now. It was officially unveiled in September of last year but delays begun quickly. That didn’t stop the company from moving forward as the e-tron finally hit German dealerships in March. We now know this electric car will be made available in China as well.
The never before seen Audi Q2L e-tTron will make its official worldwide debut at this auto show. Based on the Audi Q2, this will be the companies smallest electric SUV. Sadly, it is only destined for China but Audi did give us a tease at another upcoming electric vehicle last month, the Q4 e-tron.
The body of the Audi Q2L e-tron is 33 millimeters (1.3 in) longer than that of the basic model. The car is powered by an electric motor on the front axle that mobilizes 100 kilowatts and 290 newton meters (213.9 lb-ft). With a battery capacity of 38 kilowatt hours, it has a range of up to 265 kilometers (164.7 mi), determined according to the local homologation procedure.
These cars are both part of Volkswagen AG’s plan to produce 1 million electric vehicles by 2025. Volkswagen AG owns 12 different auto manufacturers including Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, and even Lamborghini.
Audi CEO Bram Schot:
“With both the Audi Q2L e-tron and Audi e-tron electric models, we are launching a new era in China with our partner FAW. The compact SUV will be produced locally already this year and, beginning in 2020, the Audi e-tron will also be produced in China, our largest and most important market worldwide.â€
Audi will also showcase a new concept car at the Shanghai Auto Show. The AI:ME is Audi’s vision into the future. This autonomous car concept will display the future tech imagined by Audi’s design and development teams. Audi describes it as a compact car with a roomy and futuristic interior and level 4 autonomy.
